So you got a plan to haul
certain objects to a specified destination on your trailer or
planning for a congregate in a far away place? Then it is best to get
a gooseneck hitch that can securely connect to the frame of
the truck on which it is mounted on. The name “gooseneck” might
sounds little mirthful to you, but that is due to its appearance. It
is mainly used when towing heavy, thus making it a valuable addition
while making plans for long trips or trucking purposes.
These hitches can
be attached to middle of the truck-bed rather than the rear bump. It
is basically a type of fifth wheel hitch that allows you to carry
much heavier loads than the standard ball hitch at the back of an SUV
or a truck-bed. But there is a thin line differentiation between the
fifth wheel hitch and gooseneck hitch, where the former uses a
wheel-shaped plate and later is held in place with a ball.
Installation can be done by professionals or even by yourself, but
make sure that your vehicle can handle the weight of the load. The
hitch is not only stable and safer in nature but also has the
capacity to haul up to 30,000 lbs, and that makes it ideal for heavy
trailers. And, if you own a trailer that has a front end which
protrudes out further, the hitch should be your catch. Also,
since it is mounted in the middle of the truck bed rather than the
rear, they can make sharper turns. The b&w turnover ball
have the tendency to stick while installing, and I recommend you to
store the ball up, so you can get it out easier.
The gooseneck hitch
can be installed by following few simple steps below. You just
need to have a cordless drill, a flat file, a hole saw, a socket set,
a ratchet, a hammer and a drill bit set. Firstly, mark its center
inside the truck bed using ball that have to be in the center of the
bed rails, and make sure it doesn’t interfere with the gooseneck on
turning. Next, use a 3.5 inch hole saw to saw through the truck bed
at the marking point, and file the hole edges to remove any rough
edges. Then from under the truck, the hitch platform should be placed
into the hole. Slide them from the beds top through the hitch
platform, and a nut and lock washer can them be used to secure the
bolts from under the truck bed. The nuts should be tightened until
the threads can be seen from below the nut, and the ball hitch screw
should then be unscrewed from the gooseneck ball hitch top. Finally
tighten the screws of the ball hitch that are on top of the ball
making sure they are completely tight and secure.
So now you have a better
understanding for hitches. So what are you waiting for then, when you
got the knowledge to even installing it? Go grab your luggage and get
set go for a long trip.
