Trailer Hitches- Transforming Your Vehicles to a Bona fide Big Rig

Trailer Hitches are the devices used for towing a vehicle, more commonly, known as vehicle attachment. They make the task of towing a vehicle, safe and easy; no matter it’s about taking your jet skis down to the beach or hauling horses around your ranch. Trailer hitches come in two main configurations– receiver type and fixed-drawbar type. Receiver-type hitches consist of a portion that mounts to the frame of the vehicle that has a rearward-facing opening that accepts removable ball mounts, hitch bike racks, cargo carriers, or other hitch mounted accessories. Fixed-drawbar hitches are typically built as one piece, have an integrated hole for the trailer ball, and are generally not compatible with aftermarket hitch accessories.

Hitches should be aerodynamic, lightweight and low profile for better gas mileage. They should have wide track, stabilized suspension and low center of gravity. SAE has defined some common classes: I, II, III, and IV. Some manufacturers market Class V hitches, but there is no such thing according to SAE J684.

  • Class I —up to 2,000 pounds (910 kg) — light loads

  • Class II —up to 3,500 pounds (1,600 kg) — light loads

  • Class III —up to 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg) — larger loads (campers, boats, etc.)

  • Class IV —up to 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg) — larger loads (campers, boats, etc.)
Trailer Hitches can be weight distributing hitches, fifth wheel hitches, gooseneck hitches, sway control hitches, front mount hitches, DMI cushioned hitches and motorhome hitches. A variety of accessories are also available in selection like Hitch Balls, Utility Ball Mounts, Specialty Ball Mounts, Locks Pins & Clips, Towing Starter Kits, Hitch Tube Covers, Pintle Hooks and Lunette Rings, Extensions, Adaptors & Fabrication Parts.
Trailer Hitches can either be made of Aluminum or Fiberglass with varying heights and weight. Along with Trailer Hitching accessories, wiring accessories are also essential. Connecting your vehicle to your trailer goes beyond simply placing the tongue on the hitch. Your trailer's taillights, turn signals and brake lights to work properly, you also need a solid electrical connection. Wiring can be done in two ways– first, by locating a hot wire in the tow vehicle, cutting it, splicing it, wrapping it with electrical tape and hope for the best. Second by installing a vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, t-connector and taillight converter. After only a few minutes installation time, these accessories make connecting trailer wiring as easy as plugging it in.
Marketplace is flooded with a variety of such devices. Many renowned companies are offering these products; among which bw trailer hitches have carved a niche for itself. Another trusted name in the industry is Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches- known for their durability and supreme performance. An easy way of reaching out to these brands will be Internet. Find Out The Importance Of Reese Trailer Hitches For Your Vehicle

Are you the owner of a pickup truck or a SUV? Then, you must be in a dire need of a trailer hitch. It will help you to pull the heavy haulers and trailers such as boats, campers, cargo trailers and a number of other similar items. A heavy and strong vehicle is required to haul such trailers, so most pickup trucks use a ball trailer hitch. The hitch consists of a metal ball that gets attached to a socket on the cargo. The larger trailer balls usually support more weight than the smaller ones. They are more versatile than many other types and can be used to haul small cargo trailers, boats, and some campers.

There are other kinds of hitches too known as gooseneck hitches and fifth wheel hitches. The important thing that should be kept in mind while you opt for a hitch is the truck must be strong enough to haul whatever is connected to the trailer hitch. And also, the strength of its engine should be such that it will able to build up the momentum that will easily pull the trailer. This is the most basic reason that the cars are not generally equipped with the hitches. These hitches must be installed correctly to the truck otherwise the entire hitch rig can come off, leaving the cargo behind. The installation process is simple and the instruction manual will properly guide you for the following. ReeseTrailer Hitches will help you out to sort such problems that you may come across. Its installation is easy and the quality that it delivers is unmatchable. In order to safely tow the correct combination of a vehicle and trailer, it is important to combine them with a correct loading, which should be done horizontally and vertically on the tow-ball.

How To Install A Gooseneck Hitch

So you got a plan to haul certain objects to a specified destination on your trailer or planning for a congregate in a far away place? Then it is best to get a gooseneck hitch that can securely connect to the frame of the truck on which it is mounted on. The name “gooseneck” might sounds little mirthful to you, but that is due to its appearance. It is mainly used when towing heavy, thus making it a valuable addition while making plans for long trips or trucking purposes.

These hitches can be attached to middle of the truck-bed rather than the rear bump. It is basically a type of fifth wheel hitch that allows you to carry much heavier loads than the standard ball hitch at the back of an SUV or a truck-bed. But there is a thin line differentiation between the fifth wheel hitch and gooseneck hitch, where the former uses a wheel-shaped plate and later is held in place with a ball. Installation can be done by professionals or even by yourself, but make sure that your vehicle can handle the weight of the load. The hitch is not only stable and safer in nature but also has the capacity to haul up to 30,000 lbs, and that makes it ideal for heavy trailers. And, if you own a trailer that has a front end which protrudes out further, the hitch should be your catch. Also, since it is mounted in the middle of the truck bed rather than the rear, they can make sharper turns. The b&w turnover ball have the tendency to stick while installing, and I recommend you to store the ball up, so you can get it out easier.

The gooseneck hitch can be installed by following few simple steps below. You just need to have a cordless drill, a flat file, a hole saw, a socket set, a ratchet, a hammer and a drill bit set. Firstly, mark its center inside the truck bed using ball that have to be in the center of the bed rails, and make sure it doesn’t interfere with the gooseneck on turning. Next, use a 3.5 inch hole saw to saw through the truck bed at the marking point, and file the hole edges to remove any rough edges. Then from under the truck, the hitch platform should be placed into the hole. Slide them from the beds top through the hitch platform, and a nut and lock washer can them be used to secure the bolts from under the truck bed. The nuts should be tightened until the threads can be seen from below the nut, and the ball hitch screw should then be unscrewed from the gooseneck ball hitch top. Finally tighten the screws of the ball hitch that are on top of the ball making sure they are completely tight and secure.

So now you have a better understanding for hitches. So what are you waiting for then, when you got the knowledge to even installing it? Go grab your luggage and get set go for a long trip.
